| The Core Curriculum of Canisius College applies to all
undergraduate students, no matter what their major or school.
For a complete, authoritative web page on the core curriculum,
Note: the new core applies to every student, not just those entering
as freshmen in 2009.
A complete list of the courses is given in that site.
However, here is a nutshell picture of the core:
Some students may begin their breadth of knowledge and attributes courses
in their first year, and some may not finish them until their senior year,
so the year annotations to the side in purple are general guidelines only.
The power of the new core comes from the fact that it is strongly assessment
driven rather than merely tick off the requirements. This makes it possible
to take some of the knowledge and skill attributes in your majors courses,
and to take a single course that can fulfill up to 4 requirements:
- major requirement
- breadth of knowledge
- knowledge attribute
- skill attribute
It is more likely that you will be able to combine a breadth of knowledge
and a knowledge or skill attribute, thereby getting the same valuable core
experience in fewer actual courses. Consult your advisor.
Computer Science is in Field 7 so your introductory courses are in Field 7
by default and you do not need to take any extra courses.
